ChatGPT Models Available on Web and App for Plus and Team Plans

ree

The ChatGPT platform provides different model options depending on subscription type, device, and individual account settings. While the Plus plan focuses on giving users access to GPT-5 and its reasoning modes, the Team plan extends this range with additional depth features such as GPT-5 Thinking Pro. The structure of the model picker is not fixed across all users, since toggles like Show additional models can reveal legacy entries including GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, o3, and o4-mini.

This article explores in detail which models are available on each plan, how the lists differ across web, mobile, and desktop, and why users often report different configurations.

Subscribers on the Plus plan have GPT-5 as the core model. Unlike earlier releases where only a single version of GPT-4 was selectable, GPT-5 is exposed in multiple modes of reasoning speed. These modes give the user the option to trade off immediacy of response against depth and reflection.

Modes of GPT-5 on Plus:

Mode

Description

Use case

Auto

The system chooses how long to “think” before returning an answer.

Balanced option for general use.

Instant

Responds immediately with minimal reasoning time.

Quick replies, chatty exchanges, or simple fact checks.

Thinking mini

Short but explicit reasoning before delivering an answer.

When some depth is needed but with higher speed.

Thinking

Allocates more time to internal reasoning, producing fuller and more reliable responses.

Extended explanations, technical tasks, or detailed analysis.

This structure, already familiar to many users on the web, has now been rolled out to the Android and iOS apps as well. The screenshot from the mobile interface shows these four options clearly under GPT-5.

In addition to GPT-5, legacy models are still available to Plus users if they activate Show additional models in settings. The list currently includes:

  • GPT-4o (the omni-model with multimodal input).

  • GPT-4.1 (an incremental update of GPT-4 used heavily in late 2024).

  • o3 (an optimized reasoning variant from the o-series).

  • o4-mini (a smaller, faster variant designed for lightweight use).

These models are hidden by default but can be revealed by enabling the toggle. Once active, they appear under a section labeled Modelli legacy in the model picker.

The Team plan contains all of the models available to Plus subscribers, including GPT-5 with its four modes and the legacy group if enabled. Beyond that, the Team plan introduces GPT-5 Thinking Pro, which is not accessible in Plus.

Thinking Pro provides a longer reasoning window, meaning the model can sustain more complex internal thought before producing an answer. This is designed for collaborative workflows, detailed corporate tasks, and environments where deeper analysis is required. The difference between Thinking and Thinking Pro is especially relevant in enterprise settings, where subtle reasoning across multi-step problems is a core requirement.

Differences between web, app, and desktop.

While the core list of models is consistent across platforms, the interface for selecting them varies.

  • Web interface: The web client shows the full GPT-5 modes with a Thinking time toggle. It is generally the first platform to receive updates and feature refinements.

  • Mobile apps (iOS and Android): The latest rollout now matches the web, presenting Auto, Instant, Thinking mini, and Thinking directly in the model picker. As shown in the Android screenshot, the legacy section also appears when enabled.

  • Mac desktop app: Recently redesigned with a chat bar picker, the Mac app allows users to switch between GPT-5, its modes, and Temporary Chats quickly without digging into deeper menus. This update brings the desktop closer in alignment with the web and mobile experiences.

Why some users see different lists.

Not every user reports the same selection of models, and there are several reasons for this discrepancy:

  1. Plan differences: Only Team accounts can access GPT-5 Thinking Pro.

  2. Toggle settings: The Show additional models option must be enabled to reveal GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, o3, and o4-mini. Without it, these legacy entries remain hidden.

  3. Platform rollout: Web updates typically arrive earlier, while mobile apps may show options later. Some users therefore report not seeing Thinking mini or legacy models even if others already have them.

  4. Regional or account flags: OpenAI applies staged rollouts, meaning features can appear for subsets of users before reaching everyone.

The current environment therefore makes GPT-5 the central engine for all Plus and Team users, with the option of instant replies, shorter or longer reasoning, and—where applicable—access to legacy entries for continuity. Team subscribers stand apart by unlocking GPT-5 Thinking Pro, designed specifically for scenarios demanding the highest depth of reasoning.
