Claude AI offers a tiered set of plans that range from a free version with usage resets to high-capacity Max subscriptions and business-level Team and Enterprise deployments. Each plan is structured around 5-hour usage sessions, with Pro and Max multiplying the available capacity, and Team and Enterprise offering centralized administration and higher caps. In late 2025, Anthropic has also introduced weekly limits for heavy usage, clarified pricing for business seats, and linked Enterprise overages to API token rates.

How the free plan works.
The Free plan provides access to Claude at no cost. Usage is allocated in 5-hour sessions, and the quota resets at the end of each window. The number of messages available varies depending on system load and the complexity of inputs, but once the cap is reached, Claude warns the user and no additional prompts can be submitted until the reset.
This plan is best suited for light or occasional use, where short bursts of interaction suffice. There are no billing obligations and no permanent memory or team controls attached to Free usage.

The Pro subscription for individual users.
The Pro plan costs $20 per month, or $17 per month with annual billing paid upfront at $200. It provides at least five times the usage of the Free plan in each 5-hour session. Like the Free plan, Pro usage resets every five hours, but the higher allocation ensures that regular users can continue working without hitting limits as often.
This subscription is designed for individuals who rely on Claude daily, whether for research, writing, or coding tasks, and want a predictable monthly cost with increased capacity.

Max subscriptions for power users.
For very heavy users, Anthropic introduced the Max tiers. There are two levels:
Max 5× at $100 per month, which multiplies Pro usage fivefold per session.
Max 20× at $200 per month, which multiplies Pro usage twentyfold per session.
Both tiers are billed monthly and are intended for users who continuously hit Pro limits. The Max 20× tier is particularly tailored for Claude Code workloads. Documentation shows that Max 20× enables approximately 200 to 800 Claude Code prompts per 5-hour session, along with around 900 standard chat messages, depending on input complexity.
Weekly rate limits are also in place to curb extreme usage, though they only affect a small portion of Max subscribers. These limits ensure fair distribution of resources across Anthropic’s infrastructure.

.....
Trials and promotional access.
Anthropic does not advertise a universal free trial for Pro or Max tiers. While occasional promotional access may be offered, there is no ongoing trial program documented on the official site. Users considering an upgrade must rely on the Free plan for evaluation before committing to a paid subscription.

Claude for Work: Team plans.
Organizations can subscribe to Claude for Work through Team plans, which are offered in two seat types:
Standard seats are priced at $30 per user per month, or $25 per user per month with annual billing. A minimum of five seats is required. This plan provides central billing and basic administrative controls.
Premium seats cost $150 per user per month and include access to Claude Code along with higher usage allocations.
Team plans are designed for small and mid-sized groups that need coordinated billing and governance while still using Claude as an everyday productivity and development assistant.

.....
Enterprise subscriptions and overages.
For larger organizations, Enterprise plans are negotiated directly with Anthropic. These include expanded governance features such as SSO, audit controls, and higher usage allocations. When teams exceed their included capacity, extra usage is billed at API token rates.
API pricing depends on the model:
Claude Sonnet 4: $3 per million input tokens (up to 200k), $15 per million output tokens, with higher tiers above 200k tokens.
Claude Opus 4.1: $15 per million input tokens, $75 per million output tokens.
This structure provides predictability for enterprise budgets while maintaining alignment with Anthropic’s broader API pricing.

Operational recommendations.
For individuals, the decision point lies in how often they hit usage limits. Light users can remain on Free, while regular users should choose Pro, and power users should move to Max based on their workload. For developers and coders who require hundreds of prompts per session, Max 20× is the most effective option.
For organizations, Team Standard suits small groups seeking shared billing, while Team Premium provides expanded capacity and coding features. Larger companies with regulatory or security requirements should opt for Enterprise, where overages align with API billing and governance features support compliance.
Anthropic’s model ensures that each user segment, from casual individuals to global enterprises, has a tailored plan with clear rules on pricing, session resets, and capacity management.
