Claude plans and usage limits in 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, and usage credits

Claude's consumer plan ladder in 2026 is Free, Pro, Max 5x, and Max 20x, while organizations use Team or Enterprise. Usage limits are not simple fixed message counts: they depend on plan capacity, model choice, context size, and whether usage credits are enabled.
Anthropic also separates Claude subscriptions from the Claude API. Paying for Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise does not automatically include Claude Console API usage; API calls are billed separately.

CURRENT CLAUDE PLAN STRUCTURE
Free is the limited no-cost tier. Pro is $20 monthly or $200 annually. Max is monthly only at $100 for the 5x tier and $200 for the 20x tier. Team has Standard and Premium seats, with at least two members required.

PRO AND MAX DIFFER MAINLY IN INCLUDED CAPACITY
Anthropic describes Pro as at least five times the Free usage per session. Max 5x provides five times Pro capacity per session, while Max 20x provides twenty times Pro capacity per session. Actual usable work still varies with model, prompt length, attachments, and tool use.

On Max and premium Team seats, Fable models can consume up to 50% of the user's weekly plan allowance before usage credits become necessary. On Pro and standard Team seats, Fable starts on pay-as-you-go usage credits rather than being included in the standard plan allowance.

LIMITS SHOULD BE READ AS CAPACITY, NOT A FIXED MESSAGE NUMBER
Long prompts, large files, higher-end models, extended or adaptive reasoning, and agentic tool loops consume allowance faster than short text chats. A nominal 5x or 20x tier therefore does not translate into one universal number of messages.
