Google Gemini: New tool integrations launched and how they change its capabilities

ree

Gemini has released several new integrations designed to expand its usability across creative tools, developer APIs, productivity workflows, and learning environments. These updates, launched between May and August, focus on multimodal capabilities, improved developer experiences, and enhanced customization for enterprise users.

Gemini introduces URL Context Tool to expand input flexibility.

The URL Context Tool became generally available on 18 August and allows users to directly include external web content within their prompts. By providing a list of URLs, Gemini can now analyze and summarize website data alongside user input.

This functionality works on Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini Flash, replacing the older “Flash URL” beta feature. Enterprise workspaces can enable or restrict URL context usage through their admin console, with EU rollout scheduled for 21 August.

Canvas for Gemini 2.5 Pro brings interactive collaboration.

Canvas entered preview mode on 15 August and introduces a whiteboard-style interface where teams can collaborate on projects in real time. Users can embed Gemini calls into individual cells, combining live AI-generated content with manual input.

For developers, this integration supports 50 canvases per project per day during the preview phase. Canvas is tied to Google Drive permissions, ensuring access security and document synchronization.

Guided Learning Pack enhances educational experiences.

Released on 05 August as part of the Gemini Drop updates, the Guided Learning Pack automatically converts study notes into interactive quizzes, flashcards, and visual summaries. It integrates with YouTube for video-assisted explanations and supports auto-generated diagrams for STEM topics.

This feature is available across web and Android, with iOS support introduced on 12 August. Early adoption data shows strong uptake among students using Gemini for exam preparation and project-based learning.

Magic Cue adds on-device contextual assistance.

Magic Cue, announced on 20 August, is currently in limited beta on Pixel 10 devices running Play Services v58 or later. It processes Gmail, Calendar, and Maps data locally to deliver proactive suggestions directly on the device, without making cloud API calls.

General availability is planned for Q4, with the feature designed to improve privacy by limiting data transfer. Organizations can manage Magic Cue access from the Gemini admin dashboard, ensuring compliance where sensitive information is involved.

Imagen 4 and Veo 3 power advanced creative generation.

On 20 May, Gemini introduced Imagen 4 and Veo 3 within the Gemini app, enabling high-resolution image, video, and audio-ambience generation. Imagen 4 focuses on realistic photo synthesis, while Veo 3 extends Gemini’s creative reach into cinematic-quality video outputs.

Access to these capabilities is currently limited to U.S. AI Ultra subscribers, with an EU beta planned for Q1 next year. Early testers report improved quality, faster generation, and better integration with third-party design tools.

Gemini Code Assist receives key upgrades.

Gemini Code Assist transitioned from preview to general availability on 01 July. The update added several developer-focused enhancements, including:

  • Checkpointing to store specific code states.

  • Terminal output capture for more accurate debugging.

  • Ignore-file rules to exclude unnecessary content from analysis.

These capabilities improve Gemini’s performance in integrated development environments like VS Code (v1.94 or later), helping developers automate workflows more effectively.

Workspace integrations streamline productivity.

Gemini’s Workspace Marketplace experienced rapid growth in 2025, with a surge of productivity-focused add-ons for Sheets, Docs, and Forms. These integrations enable formula generation, document summarization, and automated content formatting.

Marketplace usage increased by more than 120% year-over-year, confirming the rising demand for lightweight Gemini-powered solutions inside Google Workspace.

Gemini’s integrations prioritize flexibility and privacy.

A key theme across Gemini’s new features is expanding multimodal functionality while respecting user privacy. Tools like Magic Cue and URL Context allow processing on-device or through controlled fetch requests, giving organizations better oversight of data usage.

For developers, these updates enhance Gemini’s ability to integrate across platforms, power collaborative workflows, and streamline technical processes, solidifying its position as a core productivity and creative tool in Google’s ecosystem.
