Google’s Gemini lineup is divided into multiple tiers, each with a different model as its default. The free plan uses a lighter, faster model for everyday tasks, while paid tiers unlock more powerful systems. Many users upgrading to Gemini Advanced want to know whether they get the latest flagship model—or if it remains locked behind a higher-priced plan.
Gemini Advanced does include the most capable generally available model.
The standard Gemini Advanced subscription—also marketed as Google AI Pro and bundled with Google One AI Premium—costs $19.99 per month or $199 annually. This plan’s default model is Gemini 2.5 Pro, the most advanced model that Google makes widely available to consumers. Pro is built for extended reasoning, coding support, and complex multimodal analysis, handling large prompts with up to 1 million tokens of context in connected Google Workspace environments.
By contrast, the free plan uses Gemini 2.5 Flash, a lighter version designed for speed and lower compute costs. While Flash is capable for everyday Q&A and short content generation, it lacks the deeper reasoning ability and larger memory of Pro.
Ultra-tier models are kept separate for high-intensity workloads.
Google reserves Gemini 2.5 Ultra (also referred to as “Deep Think”) for the higher-priced AI Ultra plan, which costs around $59.99/month depending on region. Ultra is intended for the most demanding workloads—such as multi-hour reasoning traces, high-fidelity code generation, and large-scale multimodal research projects. It is not part of the standard Gemini Advanced subscription.
This means 2.5 Pro is the top model available at the $19.99 tier, while Ultra remains exclusive to those willing to pay for the premium upgrade.

For most professional and creative users, Gemini 2.5 Pro provides more than enough capability without requiring the Ultra upgrade. Its large context window, stronger reasoning, and ability to integrate with Google Workspace make it a substantial step up from the free tier. Unless your projects demand Ultra’s extended reasoning or larger multimodal datasets, the $19.99 Gemini Advanced subscription delivers the latest generally released model in Google’s consumer AI portfolio.
