Microsoft Copilot models in 2026: Smart, Think Deeper, GPT-5.5, GPT-5.6, GPT-6 Astra, and model routing

Microsoft Copilot no longer has one simple public model list. Consumer Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, Cowork, Frontier, and Copilot Studio expose different model choices and routing behavior.
For most users, the visible choice is now a conversation mode such as Quick response, Think Deeper, Smart, Search, or Auto. Exact underlying models can change as Microsoft updates the router, while selected enterprise and Frontier surfaces expose explicit model names.

COPILOT IS A ROUTED PRODUCT, NOT A SINGLE MODEL
Microsoft increasingly presents Copilot as an orchestration layer. The product can choose a faster or deeper model based on the request, so a Copilot feature name should not automatically be treated as a fixed underlying LLM.
