The technical nature: what makes GPT-5 Reasoning Alpha different?

1. Native reasoning, not just step-by-step instructions

The model label includes reasoning-alpha and the flag reasoning_effort: high. This suggests a dedicated internal chain-of-thought module, designed to reduce hallucinations and support multi-step reasoning without user prompts for each step.


2. Stable long context—up to 1 million tokens

Multiple technical reports point to a context window of up to 1 million tokens (roughly 730,000 words or several hundred pages of text). This unlocks:

BleepingComputer and developer benchmarks hint at deep integration with “ChatGPT Agents,” allowing the model to:
