Claude Free plan in 2026: Sonnet 5 access, usage limits, projects, files, and what still requires payment

Claude Free remains a real $0 plan in 2026, with limited access to Claude and current Sonnet-class capability, but it is not a free version of every Anthropic model.
Free users can use Claude without a subscription, create up to five Projects, upload context to those Projects, and access core chat workflows. Higher usage, priority access, Claude Code/Cowork benefits, and premium model access move into paid plans or usage-credit rules.

WHAT THE FREE PLAN CURRENTLY INCLUDES
Anthropic continues to offer a no-cost Claude tier for occasional use. Sonnet 5 is the current Sonnet generation and is available on Claude, while Free capacity is deliberately lower than Pro.
