Anthropic has launched Personal Finance in Claude, a beta feature that lets subscribers connect their bank and card accounts to Claude and ask questions about their own money in plain language. The company announced the feature on November 5, 2026, and it is rolling out gradually to the paid individual plans in the United States: Pro at $20 a month, Max at $100 and Ultra at $200. Free accounts are excluded, and so are Team and Enterprise organizations, which means the feature is aimed squarely at people using Claude on a personal subscription.

Accounts are connected through Plaid, the data aggregator used by many US banking apps, so Claude never receives a bank password. Once a bank is linked, Claude can see account names and types, the last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions, with amount, date, merchant, category and the bank's own description for each one. Anthropic describes the access as read-only: Claude cannot move money, pay bills, open accounts or place investment orders.

The feature lives in a dedicated Personal Finance hub in the side menu of Claude on the web, in the desktop app and in the iOS and Android apps. Anthropic says conversations held inside that hub are excluded from model training, and its help documentation sets a ceiling of 16 linked banks per user.

CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE AVAILABILITY, PLANS AND PRICES.

Access depends on two conditions at once: a paid individual plan and a US location. The help article states that the feature is available only in the US and only on Pro, Max and Ultra, and adds that a user connecting through a VPN from another country will not see it. Anthropic also says the rollout is gradual, so an eligible subscriber may find the hub missing for some days after the announcement. The table below combines the plan prices listed on Anthropic's official pricing page on November 5, 2026, with the eligibility rules from the Personal Finance help article.

The exclusion of Team and Enterprise has a practical consequence for people who use one Claude login for work. According to the help article, moving a personal account into a Team or Enterprise organization unlinks every connected bank, so the feature effectively requires a separate personal subscription. A paid plan that lapses has a softer effect: the hub closes and Claude stops reading the accounts in chats, but the banks remain linked until the user removes them, and resubscribing restores both the connections and the saved dashboard. The Ultra tier is the plan Anthropic created by renaming Max 20x, as described in our report on the Claude Ultra plan, and usage on every tier still follows the limits explained in our guide to Claude plans and usage limits.

WHAT CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE CAN READ FROM LINKED ACCOUNTS.

The scope of the data is narrower than a full banking app, and the difference shows most clearly with investments and loans. For checking, savings and card accounts, Claude receives the transaction history that makes spending analysis possible. For investment, loan and card accounts, the help article says Claude reads balances and credit limits only, without holdings, trades, interest rates or loan terms.

Anthropic's announcement lists the kinds of requests the feature is built for. Claude can total a month's spending by category and compare it with earlier months, flag duplicate charges and bills that have crept upward, explain terms such as APR and calculate the interest they imply, and build charts, calendars or dashboards that refresh from the linked data. Because Claude can produce artifacts from the same data, a recurring budget view can be kept in the hub instead of being rebuilt in a spreadsheet every month. Anthropic states that the feature is not designed to give investment advice, and that it has no ads, no sponsored recommendations and no financial products of its own to sell.

HOW TO LINK A BANK TO CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE THROUGH PLAID.

The setup flow is the same on the web, the desktop app and the mobile apps. Anthropic's help article describes six steps, and the Plaid part has a time limit: the bank sign-in must be completed within 10 minutes, after which the user should return to Claude straight away.

........

Step

Action in Claude

1

Open Personal Finance in the side menu, under More if it is not visible

2

Select Get started, then pick goals or skip them

3

Select Continue, then Link accounts with Plaid

4

Review what Claude can access and select Continue

5

In Plaid, choose the bank, sign in and select the accounts to share

6

Back in Claude, wait for the accounts, then link another bank or select Done

........

Transactions can take a few minutes to sync after a new link, and Anthropic suggests linking again if nothing has loaded after a day. Adding a second account at a bank that is already connected requires linking that bank again. The Plaid connector can also be switched on or off for individual conversations from the Connectors menu behind the plus button in the message box, which lets a user keep financial data out of a chat about something else.

Removing data works per bank login rather than per account. Unlinking a bank in the Manage linked accounts menu removes every account tied to that login, and an Unlink all banks option clears everything at once; connections can also be revoked from Plaid's own portal. Unlinking the last bank resets the Personal Finance dashboard, deleting widgets, budgets and setup answers, and the help article warns that this step cannot be undone.

CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE PRIVACY, MEMORY AND SHARING RULES.

Anthropic separates hub conversations from ordinary chats. Chats inside the Personal Finance hub are excluded from training, while financial questions asked elsewhere in Claude follow the user's general privacy settings. Chats that use linked accounts are kept out of Claude's memory, are not made searchable and are left out of the monthly recap. The data stays in chat history until the user deletes the conversation, subject to Anthropic's retention practices, and Plaid and Anthropic's hosting providers handle bank data under their own terms.

By default Claude reads the linked accounts without asking for permission in each conversation, although it asks before linking or unlinking a bank, and the default can be changed. The sharing rules deserve attention before anyone sends a link to a conversation. Shared chat links display the account figures that appear in them. Artifacts built from financial data require confirmation before they are published, and they persist until deleted even if the original chat is removed. A published finance artifact can also read the linked accounts of the person who opens it, provided that viewer has Personal Finance and allows Plaid, so a shared budget dashboard shows each viewer their own numbers.

CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE LIMITS AND ACCURACY CAVEATS.

The beta does not work everywhere inside Claude. The help article says it is unavailable in scheduled tasks, Cowork tasks and Claude Code, may not work inside projects, and is absent from Claude Duet. Data exports do not yet include the saved Personal Finance dashboard, so a user who exports an account will not get the dashboard configuration back in that file.

Anthropic is direct about the accuracy limits of bank data. Balances can be a day or two old, accounts reachable through two different logins may be counted twice, and spending totals leave out any bank Claude cannot read, which can make a budget appear to have more money left than the user really has. A bank that shows a Sign-in expired status needs to be signed into again before its data refreshes. The company also notes that Claude can make mistakes and recommends checking important figures directly with the bank before acting on them.

CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE COMPARED WITH FINANCES IN CHATGPT.

OpenAI reached this category first. It introduced Finances in ChatGPT on May 15, 2026, as a preview for Pro subscribers in the US, also built on Plaid, and later widened access, as covered in our article on Finances in ChatGPT for Free and Go users. The comparison below uses only what each company published on its own pages; the ChatGPT column reflects OpenAI's launch announcement, because OpenAI's current help article on Finances could not be loaded during verification for this story.

The clearest difference lies in investments. OpenAI's announcement describes a dashboard with portfolio performance, while Anthropic limits Claude to the balances of investment accounts and says the feature is not built for investment advice. Anthropic's approach to training is also more restrictive by default, since hub conversations are excluded regardless of the user's general settings, while OpenAI ties finance chats to the training choice made in Data controls. On institution coverage, OpenAI cited more than 12,000 supported institutions at launch, whereas Anthropic's help article lists none and refers users to the bank search inside Plaid.

CLAUDE PERSONAL FINANCE: CONFIRMED FACTS AND OPEN QUESTIONS.

The confirmed elements are specific. Personal Finance is a US-only beta on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, available on the web, desktop, iOS and Android, connected through Plaid with a limit of 16 banks, with read-only access to balances and up to 24 months of transactions and with hub conversations excluded from training. Team and Enterprise accounts cannot use it, and a personal account that joins such an organization loses its bank connections.

Several points remain open. Anthropic has not given a date for availability outside the United States or for Free users, has not said whether Team or Enterprise organizations will get a managed version, and has not published usage limits specific to the feature beyond the normal plan allowances. The announcement says Anthropic is exploring ways for Claude to work alongside licensed professionals and regulated financial firms and invites banks and financial services companies to get in touch, which points to partnerships that have not yet been named. For now, the feature gives paid US subscribers a read-only analysis layer over their bank data, with clear rules on training and sharing and with explicit warnings that balances can lag and that figures should be checked with the bank.
