Claude Free Trials and Discounts in 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, and Promotions

Claude has a permanent Free plan at $0, and Anthropic does not offer a standing free trial of Pro, Max or Ultra. The support page for the Pro plan states that there are no standing discounts, that promotions are occasional, and that Support cannot issue one-off discounts, so anyone looking for free Claude access should start from the Free plan and treat every paid-plan offer as a temporary, account-specific event.
The paid ladder also changed in 2026. Pro costs $20 per month, or $200 per year with annual billing, Max costs $100 per month for five times Pro usage, and the former Max 20x tier has been renamed Ultra, still at $200 per month, with ten times Pro usage per week and no five-hour limit for verified accounts. Existing Max 20x subscribers were moved to Ultra automatically at the same price.

WHAT IS FREE ON CLAUDE IN 2026.
The Free plan costs nothing and has no end date, which makes it the only no-cost route that every user can count on. Anthropic lists chat on the web, desktop and mobile apps, web search, file creation, code execution, memory, app connections, Artifacts, and the Design, Slides and Docs tools as part of Free. The models available on Free are Sonnet and Haiku, and Projects are capped at five.
Usage on Free is limited per five-hour window and per weekly window. Anthropic does not publish a fixed number of messages, because the speed at which a user reaches the limit depends on the model, the length of the conversation and the size of attached files. Several features stay outside the Free plan. The pricing page lists Claude Code, Research, Opus models, usage credits and monthly API credits as unavailable on Free, and the Fable models are excluded as well. A Free account is a complete product for occasional chat, writing and file work, and it requires no payment method to start.

CLAUDE PRO, MAX AND ULTRA PRICES AND WHAT EACH PLAN ADDS.
Pro is the first paid step at $20 per month in the US, or $200 billed once a year, which the pricing page presents as $17 per month. It raises usage above Free, adds priority access during busy periods and early access to new features, and opens Claude Code, unlimited Projects, Research, Claude Science, Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365 integration, and the Opus models. Pro users who want Fable 5 or Fable 5.1 pay for it through usage credits from the first message, because Fable sits outside the Pro allowance.
Max costs $100 per month and gives five times Pro usage in every five-hour window and every week. Max includes Fable models up to 50% of the weekly limit at no extra cost, $100 per month in Claude API credits, and priority access at high-traffic times. Ultra, at $200 per month, removes the five-hour limit for verified accounts and provides ten times Pro usage per week, along with $200 per month in API credits and the same Fable allowance as Max. Unverified Ultra accounts get a temporary five-hour limit, and Anthropic verifies accounts automatically based on account and payment history.

The monthly API credits on Max and Ultra are separate from the subscription allowance. Anthropic's help center says they can be claimed after seven days on an eligible plan, that the linked Claude Platform organization needs an Owner, Admin or Billing role, and that unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle without rolling over. CLAUDE PROMOTIONS AND COUPONS AND WHO CAN USE THEM.
Anthropic does run promotions, and its help center sets clear eligibility rules for them. Promotions are generally available only to users trying a paid plan for the first time, and the message "This promotion is not available for your account" means the account either has an active paid subscription or has held one in the past. Subscribers who pay through the iOS or Android app stores cannot use promotions at the moment, and moving to a direct web subscription requires waiting for the app-store term to end, cancelling, and subscribing again on the web.
A recent example shows what Claude promotions tend to look like in practice. From 1 to 15 October 2026, Anthropic ran an artifact usage promotion in which work following the creation or editing of an artifact counted 50% less toward the five-hour session limit, covering the next 10 chat messages or a block of Cowork steps. Pro, Max and Team accounts were included from 1 October and Free accounts from 7 October, while Enterprise was excluded, and the promotion did not change weekly limits. It was a temporary usage discount inside existing plans, and it gave no one a free month of Pro.
Coupon codes published on unrelated coupon sites carry no weight with Anthropic. A real offer appears inside Anthropic's own upgrade or billing flow, in official email, on Anthropic's website or help center, or through a clearly identified official program, and its terms are shown before payment is confirmed.

LEGITIMATE CLAUDE DISCOUNTS: ANNUAL PRO BILLING AND USAGE BUNDLES.
The only standing price reduction for an individual subscriber is annual Pro billing. Twelve months of Pro at the monthly rate cost $240, against $200 for the annual plan, a saving of $40 per year or 16.7%, which brings the effective monthly price to about $16.67. Max and Ultra are billed monthly only, so this discount applies to Pro alone.
Paid users can also buy prepaid usage bundles at a discount for work beyond the included plan limits. The help center lists three sizes for Pro, Max and Team accounts.

These bundles reduce the cost of extra usage and leave the subscription fee unchanged. Usage credits, which Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers can enable to keep working after reaching their limits, are billed at standard API rates, and subscribers can set a monthly spending cap or leave it unlimited. CLAUDE PROGRAMS THAT GIVE FREE OR DISCOUNTED PAID ACCESS.
Two current Anthropic programs give real paid-level access for free to specific groups. Claude for Teachers offers verified US K-12 teachers and school districts free access to premium Claude features, with teaching skills, curriculum connectors and no model training on conversations; Anthropic's page says that signing up by 30 June 2027 gives a full year of free access and that extra usage limits apply. District accounts add centrally managed accounts, single sign-on and a student data privacy agreement.
The scientist program announced on 27 August 2026 opened 10,000 seats on a Claude team plan for scientists for one year, with plans to extend beyond that first allotment. Standard seats are free, and premium seats with five times the usage cost $15 per month, which comes to $180 for a year. Eligibility requires a principal investigator or equivalent at an academic or nonprofit research institution, who can then add the researchers in their lab after verification.
Both programs depend on verification and on the user belonging to the target group, so they answer the question of free Claude access only for teachers and researchers who qualify.

HOW TO CHECK WHETHER YOUR CLAUDE ACCOUNT HAS AN OFFER.
Sign in on the web with the account that would receive the offer and open the upgrade screen at claude.ai/upgrade. If Anthropic has attached a coupon or promotion to the account, the terms appear before payment is confirmed, including the plan covered, the duration and the price after the offer ends. An account that has never had a paid plan and is not billed through an app store has the best chance of seeing one.
Before accepting any offer, check whether a payment method is required, when the renewal charge starts, and whether the offer applies to web billing only. To see whether an Ultra account is verified, open Settings and then Usage, where a verified account shows no Current session bar, according to Anthropic's help center. Support staff cannot create discounts on request, so an offer that does not appear in the account flow or in official communications should be treated as unavailable.

CLAUDE FREE TRIALS IN 2026: WHAT TO EXPECT.
The Free plan remains the stable way to use Claude without paying, with Sonnet and Haiku, five-hour and weekly limits, and up to five Projects. No Pro, Max or Ultra plan comes with a guaranteed trial, and Anthropic's own help pages describe promotions as occasional and limited to first-time paid users who are not billed through an app store.
For users who already know they need Pro, the annual plan saves $40 a year, and discounted usage bundles lower the cost of occasional extra usage by 10% to 30%. Heavy users choosing between Max at $100 and Ultra at $200 are buying more capacity, Fable access and monthly API credits, while weekly limits and other caps still apply. Verified US K-12 teachers and principal investigators at research institutions are the two groups with an official route to free paid-level access today.
